ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH AND HERITAGE MANAGEMENT IN THE MEDIEVAL AGSU CITY

In 2010-2012, MIRAS implemented the "Medieval Agsu City Archaeological Tourism Complex" project and brought scientific innovation to Post-Medieval Archaeology and Archaeological Tourism in Azerbaijan. 1.5 hectare area was explored from an archaeological point of view and archaeological remains were conserved. The main structures are made of mud bricks and river stones. The archaeological remains are covered with metal constructions in four places (Crafts Estate, North Fortress Walls and Hamam/Bath Complex, Juma Mosque and Buzkhana/Ice House). In 2019, the Medieval Agsu City was declared a state historical and cultural reserve. MIRAS experience in research, conservation and promotion activities conducted in the Medieval Agsu City for 10 years is presented.
